An invitation, not pressure
One person offers an impulse and the other responds. Allow time for that response. Continuing before it arrives can create pulling and resistance. Clear communication needs a shared rhythm and a comfortable amount of contact.
A simple partner drill
Stand comfortably facing each other and agree on light hand contact. One person shifts weight slowly; the other notices and responds. Keep the movements small without pulling. Swap roles after a minute and discuss which impulses were clear. Release the contact if either person feels uncomfortable.
Bring it into your dance
Choose a simple movement at your next social. Notice the moment between the impulse and the response. Adjust its pace and range. A figure both people can dance comfortably is more valuable than one that only works with pressure.
