Less distance, more clarity
When a combination feels uncertain, steps often get bigger. Try the opposite: make your basic smaller and give each weight transfer time. Notice whether you arrive on the new standing leg before taking the next step. You do not need a particularly deep movement or extra tension.
A three-minute drill
One minute: dance a small basic without music and pause after each weight transfer. One minute: add a slow song while keeping the same step size. One minute: continue with your gaze forward. If it becomes unsteady, slow down or take a break.
Take it to the social
Start your next dance with something familiar. Notice whether your partner settles into the shared tempo. Then add a simple variation. Afterwards ask yourself: did the dance feel easier even though I did less?
